Psychosis is the working title for the game I am currently developing.
This page gives a brief overview of the project. Please note that everything described here is subject to change.
It will take place in a single empty house with no other characters and no direct explanation of the story. Thus, it is up to the player to find out the plot himself by exploring the house and finding clues. One main focus of the gameplay is on exploration, but in addition to that, Psychosis will also feature many puzzles as found in classic Adventure games.
It is being developed in pure C++ and as the game's 3D engine, TowerEngine is being used, which only uses Cross-Platform, Open Source technologies such as OpenGL and Bullet Physics. Thus, the game will be available for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows without any major modifications for each platform.
In terms of gameplay and pacing, Psychosis is a game that is very well suited for VR. This is why VR support will be an optional but major feature of the game and I will try to create the best experience possible by keeping VR in mind throughout the whole development process.
Right now, both Oculus SDK 1.3 and OpenVR are integrated into the game, so it already runs on both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
However, there is still a lot to do, especially considering the controls, until it will be an experience which is actually worth playing in VR. I am planning to provide full support for the HTC Vive's tracked controllers and implement teleportation as the primary game mechanic for locomotion, which means this game will be best played with room-scale.
